Paul Allen: A Champion for Pro Sports in the Pacific Northwest

Paul Allen didn’t particularly want to buy the Seattle Seahawks. He already owned one major professional sports team, the Portland Trail Blazers. The Seahawks played in a decrepit stadium, lost money and weren’t good on the field.

But Allen regularly attended Seahawks games, and when the previous owner announced his plans to whisk the team away to California, he was worried. Cities that lost sports teams often didn’t get them back.
